Finding products and assets

Location and identification of products and components

Products and assets are distributed across outdoor and indoor manufacturing areas. A reduction in search times and the potentially unnecessary purchase or production of „lost“ products and assets is achieved by real-time tracking of products and assets/tools using location and identification technology. Direct and indirect locating methods may be combined to improve cost-effectiveness.

Die Applikation The ASSETFINDER application provides real-time information on the location of products, assets and tools in the outdoor and indoor areas of the factory site or even at external service providers. Product and asset data may be taken from the central company data repositories and associated with the identification and location system „tags“. In this way the location of all tracked objects may be displayed reliably on OpenStreetMaps as well as on customer-specific floor plans.

Monitoring the use of assets and tools

Location and identification of production assets and tools in manufactruing areas

Assets and tools are used in production at different locations for different purposes and activities. Expensive assets and tools are often shared. The location and identification of assets and tools provides transparency of their whereabouts at any time, thus reducing the search effort and avoiding loss. In addition, the data collected provides information about the actual usage behavior and thus enables improved planning.

The ASSETTRACKER application provides real-time information on the location and condition of assets and tools in the outdoor and indoor areas of the factory premises or at external service providers. The application enables the monitoring of operating cycles, recording of travel times, etc. with automatic notifications in case of deviations from predefined parameters.
Data on assets and tools are taken from central company data repositories (e.g. ERP or WMS) and associated to the location and identification „tags“. In this way accurate information about the location and status of tracked objects can be provided on an OpenStreetMap as well as on customer-specific map material. Dashboards are used to present current status and historical changes.

Tracking work-in-progress

Locating and identifying work-in-progress in production areas

Work-in-progress represents ordered but unfinished products in the various stages of the production and assembly process. An up-to-date transparency of the whereabouts of the production orders using location and identification enables a reduction of the work-in-progress since contingencies are no longer necessary. This reduces the buffer space required, avoids unnecessary movement and preserves liquidity and capital.

The PRODUCTTRACKER application provides information about the location and status of production orders including any missing parts, materials, individual parts, components, semi-finished and finished products as well as transport racks or jigs. It automatically picks up production orders released by the ERP system, associates them with the tracking and identification system „tags“ and provides reliable information about the location in the process steps and buffer areas. Dashboards present the current and historical production status.

Monitoring the manufacturing process flows

Tracking process flows of the work-in-progress in production areas

In the variant-rich manufacturing of discrete products, a wide variety of manufacturing processes may be required. An up-to-date transparency of the whereabouts of the production orders at any time through location and identification enables monitoring of the process instructions and instant notification in case of deviation from plan. In combination with eLabels, process exceptions can be displayed directly on the shop floor with the order. This prevents errors, reduces rework and results in higher productivity.

The PRODUCTTRACKER application provides information on the location and process history of production orders. Deviations from plan are detected by comparing process sequences and activity times from the production planning system with the actual activity. The application automatically picks up released production orders including their process instructions from the planning system, associates them with the location and identification system „tags“ and provides reliable information about the location in the process steps as well as buffer areas. Dashboards present the current and historical production status. Real-time alerts may be generated if the actual activities deviate from the plan.
